Our Story
MUFEYA began with two mothers in 2021, united by a shared vision and an unwavering belief that children deserve spaces rooted in culture, excellence, and intention. What started as informal playdates quickly evolved into something more. Mothers were not only connecting their children, but intentionally laying the foundation for an organization built to last.
That vision resonated. Two became seven. These seven mothers met consistently, developing the structure, values, and purpose that would become MUFEYA. They did not simply join a group. They caught the vision and ran with it, shaping an organization grounded in African heritage and committed to raising confident, capable leaders.
The seven founding mothers of MUFEYA include: Sammie Joseph-Fredericks (Liberia), Esthella Ajayi-Nicol (Sierra Leone), Asneth Omare (Kenya), Jarin Thorpe (Nigeria), Jamesetta Ross-Diggs (Liberia), Caroline Njau (Kenya) and Shétu Rose (Sierra Leone).
Today, MUFEYA is a thriving, purpose-driven community of 13 mothers and more than 30 children, united by shared values and a collective commitment to culture, leadership, and excellence. What began with two mothers has grown into a structured organization creating meaningful, transformative experiences for children and families.
Through intentional programming, strong maternal leadership, and deep cultural pride, MUFEYA continues to build spaces where children, within the organization and the community, are affirmed, challenged, and prepared to lead at home, in their communities, and in the world.
